With our two boys growing fast we were quickly growing out of our current home. Looking at many subdivisions we came upon a new development on Wichita’s west side, named Fox Ridge. Fox Ridge was developed by the Wichita based Schellenberg Development Company. With the natural setting, community pools, family oriented neighborhood, Maize schools and close proximity to restaurants and shopping, we quickly found that Fox Ridge had everything we were looking for. We began building our home, which was completed in 2009.
Driving into Fox Ridge, the first thing you will notice is the natural setting with native grasses atop of high berms, that provide privacy to the homes. The winding Westlakes Drive is boarded by beautiful elms, oaks, maples, willows and other native grasses and wildflowers to Kansas. One can easily forget they are in West Wichita.
Continuing from Tyler Road on Westlakes, you approach the community pool and the playground on the right. The large pool area, staffed by life guards, is complete with a diving board and cabana type structure that can be reserved for private parties. It also includes a kiddie pool for the little ones to splash in on a hot summer day.
You will then cross a small bridge with scenic ponds with lighted fountains on each side of the road that are great for fishing, bird watching or having a relaxing picnic on their banks. Wildlife such as soaring hawks, sly foxes and curious skunks can also be spotted at times. Getting closer to Maize road there is a smaller pool that is more relaxed and is more adult oriented.
You’ll pass by streets that end in cul-de-sacs which makes for a safe area for the children to play. During nice evenings you can see groups of families walking their dogs, pushing strollers, or jogging along the curved and undulating paved paths, while capturing a vibrant sunset in an idyllic setting.
Seasonal activities include an Easter egg hunt, fishing derby, Fourth of July bike parade and pool parties. As an added bonus there are also organized garage sales twice a year, and even a sponsored Dumpster event.
The Fox Ridge development is within the very desirable Maize School district, and is bordered to the north by the Maize South Campus. The campus contains the Maize Early Childhood Center, Maize South Elementary, Maize South Middle and Maize South High, which are all within walking distance, and connected by paved paths from the Fox Ridge Development.
When approaching the west side of the development and turning south on to Maize Road, New Market Square's shopping and restaurants are less than 5 minutes away. Walmart, Target, Sam’s and Lowe's are all in the same vicinity, with Dillon’s grocery store just a mile away.
Fox Ridge's beautiful homes range from the upper $200k's to $1.4M. This scenic and family oriented community, that is conveniently close to shopping and Maize schools, is a joy to live in, and definitely has a lot to offer.
